College student Markus Burden sinks a half court shot and wins free tuition at Ball State University

Barely a day into the new school year, Markus Burden's freshman year was already off to an incredible start.
During a "Welcome Week" event for Ball State University students on Thursday, the 18-year-old incoming freshman from Frankfort, Ill. sank a half-court shot to win free tuition for his spring semester (embedded).
“It was an overwhelming feeling,” Burden told the Indianapolis Star. Burden said his mother couldn't believe the news until a friend sent her photographic proof.
According to a statement from Ball State, the university has been sponsoring the contest for several years, but Burden is the first to make the shot and win the prize.
Burden, a marketing major, said he's only ever played rec league basketball. For his fantastic shot, the out-of-state student will get a check for more than $11,000 to go towards his spring tuition costs.
