One of the hardest things for Army Sgt. Jason Bos to do in 2012 when a back injury forced him to retire from the military was say goodbye to his beloved bomb-sniffing dog he had affectionately nicknamed Cici.
The two had worked closely together for five years in Iraq sniffing out roadside bombs and searching for hidden weapons, ultimately forming a bond that Bos, 33, would not soon forget.
The chocolate lab was only 5 when Bos left the military, meaning she still had plenty of good years left to stay and put her doggie-duties to work. About a month ago, however, Bos came across a posting on Facebook explaining that Cici was due to be retired.
It wasn’t long before the kennel master at Bos’ former base got in touch with the soldier about formally adopting her. Bos jumped at the chance to be reunited with his four-legged friend, and a truly touching moment happened Wednesday at Chicago O’Hare airport.
“It’s been a long time,” Bos explained Wednesday as he anxiously awaited the dog’s arrival.
And just as the lab comes bounding toward her soldier, he can’t help but shout, “Cici! Hi Baby!”
The two picked up right where they left off as Cici jumped up and down, wagging her tail in excitement to finally be home with her human.
