Clay Lawson thought it was just an ordinary day busing tables at the Cavalier Diner in Charlottesville, Va., until a customer did something truly incredible.
The 16-year-old busboy had just saved up enough money to buy an iPad for school, WVIR-TV reported. But when he left it on a stack of cardboard boxes, his mom accidentally threw it in a fire pit.
The next day, Donna Drumheller, a waitress at the diner and friend of the Lawson family, was telling a few employees what happened, when a customer overheard the story.
The patron, who remains anonymous, left the diner after paying his bill but came back an hour later -- with a $360 Best Buy gift card in hand.
“It's really amazing," Lawson told WVIR. "I am still in shock that someone went out of their way to do this for a complete stranger. I’m going to try to be a better person just from learning from this experience.”
