AUBURN HILLS, MI – At 79 years old, Evie Branan still cheered, threw her hands in the air, shook her booty and rocked out the Bob Seger concert Thursday night.
She met Seger and his family, chatted with crew and band members and received VIP treatment at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Complete strangers recognized her after hearing her name or seeing her pushed through the halls of The Palace.
People were eager to hear Branan's story about how she woke up from a five-year semi-coma and her first words were "I want to go to a Bob Seger concert."
Branan's story received national attention.
The night was one she will never forget, Branan said. It was the best concert she'd ever been to.
She was a trooper while she listened, danced and swayed to more than 15 songs. From time to time she would stand up and danced, something she always said she would do.
"I loved it. It was fantastic," Branan said. "This is the happiest I've been in a long time."
The concert was great, but the best part of her night was when she got to meet Seger himself and see his dressing room.
Branan became an instant celebrity. She was invited to attend the after party and at times found herself surrounded by crowds of people wanting to talk to her and take her picture.
She was stopped by Seger's daughter, Samantha, and the band's saxophone player Alto Reed.
"She's a sweetheart. She's a celebrity now and it's beautiful," Reed said during the after party. "Life is magic. Magic happens every day and she's an example of that. Never give up."
Whether someone knew before Thursday night or not, one thing is for certain. Her story, her personality, her love for life all made an impact on a lot of people.
Before Branan left for the concert she said a few times how much she just loved life. She took advantage of Thursday night and lived life to the fullest.
Branan left The Palace with a smile on her face. And many others smiled because they met Branan.
