Child cancer survivor gives back and brings the birthday party to other kids in the hospital that are going through what he did...

CHAPEL HILL — After battling bone-soft tissue cancer, each one of Xander Pond's birthdays is a major milestone that his mom cherishes.
"Birthday's are special for anyone, especially a kid, but when you go through something like this, they're even more special," said Xander's mother Angie Pond.

To celebrate turning 8-years-old, Xander's birthday wish was to bring his party to the North Carolina Children's Hospital Pediatric Cancer Clinic.

"Even some kids here have to miss their birthday parties and everything because they have to come up here," said Xander Pond.

However he did not wear the birthday hat. Instead he threw a reverse birthday and gave all the other patients a reason to smile.

"I hope it will bring them confidence and happiness," said Xander Pond.

Rather than receiving gifts, he passed out presents to other kids.

"If they don't get to have their birthday party, then they probably never will until they're done with this cause it took a while for me to get done with this but now I'm all better and I'm just happy," said Xander Pond.

He has been in remission since December 2011, but knows how hard it is to be sick.
On Friday, Xander brightened other patients spirits. He hopes each pillow pet and coloring book he passed out makes patients time at the hospital easier.

His kind gesture immediately brought joy to the faces of children and their parents and made his mother proud.

"That's what you want in your children is to be able to give back and be that type of person," said Angie Pond.

With each patient's smile, Xander's birthday wish comes true again and again. For the past three holiday seasons, Xander has also passed out presents to all the children in the cancer clinic.
