The "Material Girl" Madonna keeps on giving to the victims of Hurricane Sandy

Apparently, Madonna is not so similar to the "Material Girl" she sang about in 1984. The pop star is embracing her altruistic side by holding an auction to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Madonna will auction off gear from her MDNA tour to benefit Sandy victims, the New York Post reports. She may offer up the famous red and white majorette costume along with some props from the set (but not the fake gun that caused some major controversy).
Madonna's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, confirmed to E! News that the 54-year-old singer has agreed to donate items from her record-breaking MDNA tour to support the effort.

This is not the only time the "Like a Virgin" singer has attempted to help.
During a packed show at Madison Square Garden in November, Madonna stripped for Sandy donations, MTV News notes.
"This money is not for me," she told the crowd, who began throwing money on stage. "We are collecting money for victims of Hurricane Sandy so please feel free to be generous as I freeze my ass off."
Madonna revealed she and her children had gone down to Rockaway Beach in Queens, N.Y., after the storm hit, and they were moved by the "amazing acts of humanity" they saw.
The superstar's gesture comes just days after her teenage daughter, Lourdes, wrote a post for her Material Girl blog about visting the hurricane-hit region.
After Sandy hit, Lourdes went with Madonna to New York, where they boxed provisions for victims.
"It was actually really awesome to see how many people were there helping out and how many people cared," she wrote. "There has been an extreme amount of progress since the hurricane despite the damage done and it is very inspiring to see the city rebuild itself but there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done."
