New Hampshire company comes to the rescue for little blind boy who lost his favorite toy...

TORONTO – After the story of a blind three-year-old boy who lost his favourite stuffed animal went viral Tuesday, the American company which made the now discontinued toy has offered to restart production to make two more just for the London boy.

Ashlee Smith posted an advertisement on Kijiji begging for help and offering a $200 after her blind, three-year-old son, Mason, lost his favourite stuffed animal.

“He is blind and this is his comfort, I need to find this lamb- please help!” Smith wrote on Kijiji.

The lamb is hand sewn and wearing a hooded, purple felt coat.

“It could be anywhere - On the bus, in a shopping cart, on the road, on the sidewalk in an aisle way in walmart [sic],” Smith wrote. “I am really hoping the hand sewn jacket would keep anyone from throwing it away as it looks very well loved and ratty.”

Since she posted her request for help, almost 30,000 people have seen the ad and a local London radio station – 103.1 Fresh FM – has offered to add $300 to the reward.

Global News brought the story of Smith and her son Mason to the company which made the stuffed animal.

Now, Scott Clarke, President of Douglas Company – the company which had formerly manufactured the stuffed animal – told Global News Tuesday they had discontinued the toy but this one time will make two more.

“Because we design all of our toys here in the USA, we have a design studio right here,” Clarke wrote in an e-mail to Global News. “So the team here would be happy to make 2 pieces more of the rattle for Mason. One to hold, and one more to have as a spare!”

The company is also replacing the bear for free.
