10 year old to shave her head for cancer research in support of her 6 year old friend that is fighting cancer...this will be the second year in a row for her helping out as part of the annual St, Baldrick's fundraising drive

A little six year old in Murfreesboro is changing lives, all because of his diagnosis with cancer. WGNS realizes this is a strange way to start off a story, but Alex Scogins is in the fight for his life while undergoing cancer treatment and the stories that have blossomed around him are very uplifting.
One of those stories that we are following involves his 10-year old neighbor, Haley Burt.  Haley says, "I'm standing up to be the voice for my friend Alex, and other kids fighting deadly childhood diseases like cancer every day.”
Haley says she plans to shave her head in support of Alex who has spent many days at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Haley is helping to raise money to fund childhood cancer research. She stated, “My hope is one day researchers can find a cure to conquer all deadly childhood diseases once and for all." Just two days after Christmas, Alex underwent a spinal tap procedure as part of his treatment.
For a second time in the past two years, Haley will have her head shaved on March 15th in honor of Alex. March 15th is the date of the annual St. Baldrick’s – Bald in the Boro event, sponsored by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic.  Haley’s mom Jackie told us that her daughter just announced to her elementary school class her intentions to have her head shaved this March to support Alex. Her mom said, “Alex and his family have been one of our neighbors since before he was born and Haley often remembers his 1st birthday party in his backyard.” Haley and her brother Wyatt are also leading a card drive for the six year old who is battling cancer (see: #GetWellWishes4Alex). In just a few short weeks, they collected over 100 cards for Alex, some from as far away as Canada.
Haley is looking for support in her efforts to raise money this year during the St. Baldrick’s, Bald in the Boro event. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except for the U.S. government. Over the past couple of years, Bald in the Boro volunteers have raised over $104,000 to support St. Baldrick's in childhood cancer research. The Bald in the Boro event will be at Lanes, Trains and Automobiles on Butler Drive. This year - like last, stylist from the Beehive Hair Salon will be shaving heads throughout the evening.
